1970's
The Genesis of Glory
The 1970s marked the program's foundation and first dominant era. After a start in 1969-1970, the team quickly established itself, earning five Conference First Place titles (1974, 1975, 1976, 1978, 1979) and three District First Place titles (1976, 1978, 1979). The decade culminated in the program's first two State Championships in back-to-back years, 1978 and 1979, officially cementing the Green Wave as a state power.

History Makers
The program's second year in 1971 saw its first major breakthrough when Terry Hamric became the school's first-ever state placer, securing a 4th-place finish in the 170-lb weight class.
This early success culminated in 1978, a landmark year where Fort Myers High School celebrated its first three State Champions in program history:
Dennis McGinley (109 lbs)
David Salo (159 lbs)
Bob Irby (171 lbs)
These pioneers etched the Green Wave into the history books, forever setting the standard for wrestling achievement at Fort Myers High.
